Delaware Coastal Airport Construct Parallel Taxiway D, Georgetown Delaware

Delaware Coastal Airport Construct Parallel Taxiway D, Georgetown Delaware

The project includes the design of a proposed taxiway at the Delaware Coastal (DCA). N&W is the Geotechnical Engineer of Record and to date has completed the drilling, and field CBR tests. We are currently performing lab testing for the taxiway pavement design. The field work consisted of thirty-eight (38) test borings and four (4) field CBR tests. The drilling consisted of approximately 360 feet of continuous SPT sampling and 25 of unsampled footage to obtain bag samples for CBR testing. We mobilized our track-mounted Acker Scout rig to...

DelDOT Statewide Pipe Replacement Design Build Project

DelDOT Statewide Pipe Replacement Design Build Project

The State of Delaware has more than 200 locations throughout the state where bridge-length corrugated metal pipe culverts are corroding and are in need of replacement. In most of these locations, the corrugated metal pipes are at or beyond their expected life. DelDOT decided to use the design/build method to expedite replacement of a group of these culverts with new reinforced concrete pipes. With the design/build method, a team comprised of a construction firm and an engineering firm agrees to perform all the work necessary to complete the...

Design/Build Bridge Replacement — 76013 SR 1054-E10 over Indian Creek

This design/build bridge replacement project consisted of the design of a twospan, pre-stressed concrete spread box beam bridge. The bridge carrying SR 1054 over Indian Creek was built using half width construction and has two 60’-0” spans. The beam spacing and bridge width were revised to eliminate the need for a temporary support of the existing structure during half-width construction, allowing the contractor to save time and money. The bridge design components included 48” x 27” deep spread box beams, elastomeric bearings, concrete...

Design/Build Bridge Replacement — 29813 SR 0381-X00 over Mill Run

This design/build bridge replacement project involved replacing the existing Pratt through truss bridge with a single span steel plate girder structure supported by spread footings on concrete with solider beam and lagging wing walls. The bridge carrying SR 381 over the Mill Run Reservoir was relocated upstream of the existing structure and has a 170’-0” span within a transition section. The relocation of the structure created a need for wetland mitigation and built up embankment construction. The following services were provided for the...

E02313 General Designer Open End, WO #2 — SR 519 Roundabouts Final Design

For the final design of two multi-lane roundabouts on SR 519 services were provided as part of an open-ended engineering services contract. The roundabouts are located approximately 400’ apart at the intersections with SR 1055 northbound and SR 1055 southbound. While this innovative design was set to improve traffic flow and relieve congestion at these intersections, it has also left the smallest project footprint on the topography of the area. The following services were provided for the project: Project Management/Project Administration....
