THE POSITION:

Navarro & Wright Consulting Engineers, Inc. is accepting resumes for a full-time Survey Party Chief for projects in the Philadelphia and surrounding suburb area. We are looking for an experienced survey team leader that can provide day-to-day supervision of a survey crew. This position plans, directs, and coordinates activities of a one or two-man survey crew to support a broad range of land surveying and related services for federal, state, and private clients. Survey Party Chief should possess high integrity and an excellent attention to detail to be able to conduct all work in accordance with highest professional standards and company policies, procedures, and programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates experience in topographic, control, boundary, ALTA, as-built surveys as well as construction/heavy civil layout for Commercial, Industrial, Residential and Municipal projects.
  • Experience performing PennDOT and PTC bridge and highway surveys required.
  • Will accurately run survey measuring instruments including GPS/GNSS equipment and robotic total stations with electronic data collecting capabilities.
  • Participates as required with in-house project planning and schedule development. Responsible for fulfilling schedule obligations. Consults with the supervisor when there are scheduling issues/conflicts.
  • Learns all the details of the plans and specifications of the project assigned.
  • May also perform some office duties, including data reduction, field note reduction, calculations, data checks and staking computations using survey computer programs and AutoCAD.
  • Keep accurate field notes by recording all important data: date / time, weather, job number, job/client name, description of work, detailed project control sketch, and download file name.
  • Ascertains survey instruments and equipment are properly adjusted and maintained. Ascertains that survey truck is properly maintained.
  • Ensures client satisfaction in all Client relations and interactions.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalency (GED) required; additional land survey related course work desirable. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a land surveying environment. SIT or CST Certification preferred. Valid driver’s license required.

  • Minimum of 5 years of Land Survey related experience including, but not limited to: PennDOT Surveys; Boundary, ALTA and Topographic Surveys; Highway, Commercial and Infrastructure Construction; Bridges and Structural Steel Layout.
  • Robotic total station and GPS/GNSS experience required. Ability to download/upload survey related information in data collector, as well as to perform necessary calculations to be able to perform required field work.
  • Basic proficiency in written and verbal business communications skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in reading and interpreting contracts and specifications.
  • Ability to receive written or oral instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with office and field personnel.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and maintain composure, professionalism in all situations.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Primarily requires the ability to sit, use fingers/hands, talk, and hear. Occasionally requires the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb, balance, kneel or crouch. Frequently requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Requires the following specific types of vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Exposure to the following environmental conditions: wet and/or humid (non-weather) conditions, moving mechanical parts, high/precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, work with vibration. Subject to loud noise levels due to equipment operation on site. Working around heavy equipment, motor vehicle and rail traffic required.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Position requires occasional overnight travel to and from assigned field sites.
