WSSC Visitor’s Center/Staff Support Facility

WSSC Visitor’s Center/Staff Support Facility

Navarro & Wright Consulting Engineers, Inc. (N&W) has completed numerous assignments in support of Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) projects since 2012. N&W is part of the design team selected to design a new $6.4 million visitor’s center/staff support facility to be constructed on the grounds of WSSC’s existing Brighton Dam public recreation area in Montgomery County, Maryland.  A longtime champion of environmental stewardship, WSSC offers public recreation opportunities at the Brighton Dam watershed where the public can enjoy fishing, hiking, bird watching, horseback riding and similar outdoor activities.  The Brighton Dam recreational area is also home to Brighton Dam’s Azalea Garden.  Established in 1959 on 5 acres of woodlands, the Azalea Garden is home to over 22,000 azalea bushes.

N&W provided surveying, geotechnical,  site/civil engineering and landscape architecture services for the new Brighton Dam facility.  In addition to a new building, the site features new parking areas, stormwater management facilities best management practices and drop-off area with considerations for bus access and turnarounds.  The site will feature new walkways, entrance plaza, landscaping, fueling station, ADA accommodations, connections to existing and proposed site utilities (water supply and on lot septic system), forest stand delineation/forest stand conservation and  other environmental/preservation considerations.
